May 4-6 is Seattle's Best of the Northwest: a marketplace for fine art and crafts. This bi-annual event hosts thousands of attendants and hundreds of regional artisans who sell and display their work over three days.  Come and explore the many booths where you will find pottery, clothing, jewelry, photography, furniture, toys, and much more.  Find the practical, whimsical, inspiring, functional and decorative - all under one roof!  You will also find OPERATION: Sack Lunch educating the public about the issues of hunger and poverty at our own booth. Participate at our interactive art tables and help color lunch sacks for the program. OPERATION: Sack Lunch founder, Beverly Graham, co-ordinates the musical line-up for two live entertainment stages and performs throughout all three days. The Best of the Northwest will be located at Sand Point in the historic
waterfront air hangars of the old Naval Air Station.
Free parking.

A Special Event

May 13th is Mother's Day, an opportunity to honor the women who care for us. Grandmothers,
foster mothers, biological mothers, Mother Earth…we all have moms. We all need nurturing - physical,
emotional, and spiritual - so that we may discover and share our unique gifts and talents with each other.  Having our physical needs met is paramount. We all know from personal experience that when we are
hungry our minds turn off, and we can not think; our hearts turn off then we become irritable. When hunger is chronic we do not have the everyday resources to survive, let alone to feed our talents and give to our
community. When the people of our community are hungry, who mothers them?

Seven days a week, OPERATION: Sack Lunch is working to meet the needs of the hungry people in our community: preparing meals, fundraising, serving meals, writing grants, educating people…the list goes on.  What can you do? Attend our Mother's Day Benefit Concert and Silent Auction. Celebrate mothers with our own founding Mother, Beverly Graham, as she debuts her fourth CD "behind the door where i live". This promises to be a delightful afternoon of entertainment that will also benefit OPERATION: Sack Lunch. If you have not had the opportunity to see and hear Beverly in a live performance (and even if you have), don't let this event pass you by. Beverly's music is an expression of her unique and yet universally human
experiences. The music of her latest CD opens a window into the life of a woman who has been mother to three of her own children, and also to the hundreds she has helped to feed for the past twelve years. The
intimate concert hall setting of this performance is ideal for Beverly's dynamic voice and heart-felt lyrics.  Her tradition for storytelling promises to entertain and inspire.  Treat your mom, yourself, your family, and friends on this special occasion. Find details for this event on the cover of this issue of Loaves and Fishes. Specialmusical guests include Emily Afanador, Joe Carolus, Ron Rossel and Ken Wright.
