We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend Don Bodmer.

Don and Joan have lived their lives as an example for all of us, teaching through positive action the meaning of community, sacrifice, and loving one's neighbor. Don and Joan have been mainstay volunteers in OPERATION: Sack lunch for many years.

Don passed over one week after he and Joan buried their eldest son, Stephen.

Our heart felt condolences to Joan and the entire Bodmer family during this time of grief

Don is greatly loved and will be sorely missed.

TILL WE ALL HAVE FACES
THAT SOMEONE ELSE CAN SEE
TILL WE ALL HAVE PLACES
IN THIS WORLD
TILL WE ALL HAVE VOICES
AND TRUE EQUALITY
I WILL SING

Sandra has lived on the streets for the past four year. She has been diagnosed with post traumatic syndrome. She sleeps under the via ducts in the city and in the wooded spots designated the 'jungle' by those who have to live there. Every few weeks city employees come through and throw away everything, except for trash, that is left in the sleeping area. Blankets, sleeping bags, clothes, and personal items, like family pictures, are fair game if left unattended. It is impossible for those who are homeless to find work while carrying everything they own with them, so they just have to take a chance they will still have their belongings after a day of job searching. Businesses simply do not want to hire those who appear to be homeless . "The stigma attached to living without a house is a discrimination that must be addressed" states Sandra. "I did not ask to be homeless. It is something that happened to me while I was participating in life".

VOLUNTEER PROFILE

Marjorie Dopps is one of the lead volunteers at our Lake City Presbyterian site and has definitely earned the title of "Queen of the Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Makers". She is fast and efficient, but most importantly she know the exact quantity of both ingredients to put on the bread to make it perfect. She ensures that all the sandwich making stations are set up and that the kitchen is clean when we are done. Marjorie keeps the operation running smoothly and is a great asset when our student volunteer groups from area schools are community service. When not volunteering for OPERATION: Sack lunch she is the care giver for her 95 year old mother and working on many Lake City Presbyterian church functions, including bookkeeping. Her mathematical skills come in very handy on the bread count! Marjorie, is a role model by example and her actions give meaning to what community service is all about.
