Staff Highlight: Program Manager Susan Dailey
"After spending 20 years in London working for a mental health charity, I moved back to Bellevue and began working for OPERATION: Sack Lunch in the autumn of 1999. These are some of the things I've learned: Being in service to others, particularly those who are most vulnerable in our society is more rewarding then climbing - scrambling up the corporate ladder. Commercial ovens are really difficult to clean. Our volunteers are as diverse and unique as those we serve. Teenagers grasp the injustice and stigma attached to being homeless faster than adults. There are never enough aprons or dish towels. The sizing of food handling gloves bare no relation to human hand sizes. The small act of looking into someone's eyes and saying "hello" can open up a deep connection between two people and reminds me that "difference" is only superficial. And most fundamentally I've learned that one person can make a difference".
Susan often goes above and beyond the call of duty and although the saying goes "no one is indispensable",  Susan is. We are very fortunate that she found us.
